In Memoriam

memoriam

I’ll remember those faces, cheeks once kissed by doting mothers
now creased with the harsh lines of wartime.
Generations before my life began,
yet their stories continue to be told.
A band of flowers circles my finger.
A carpet of red stains the museum floor.

Painting: Evdokiya Hristova
