Let Me

As a child, I struggled to find my place,
only discovering how different I was
from everyone else.
My heart’s cry was just to fit in.
Little did I realize that I was meant
to find my own identity,
quietly demanding in my own way
for others to let me be me,
eventually discovering in amazement
how freeing it could be and just
how much I could love
and accept myself.
