You speak of our life together

as if it’s been decades.

The rare moments of

any mentions of the past

serve only to express

the gratitude you have

for me and my love.

Oh, how I wish

I could have spared you

the years of heartache.

But I know how necessary

those wounds were.

How else would your heart

be able to contain all of

the love and goodness

and caring inside of you.

I love each and every one

of your scars,

for that’s where

the best parts of

your soul seep through.
